1. Static Website: Static websites are smaller websites with a limited number of pages and have fixed content. The content will be the same for every user that visits your website. If you are a small or medium business that just wants to display information about your company, then Static Website is the one you should go for.

2. Dynamic Website: Dynamic websites on the other hand do not have a limit on the number of pages. The content displayed to the users might change depending on where they are coming or what they are looking or on the filters they have chosen. Dynamic websites are built using Server-side languages such as PHP along with HTML, CSS & JS. The best example of Dynamic websites is Netflix, Amazon.

Now that you understand the types of websites, let us look at how much these kinds of websites would cost to be built.

Static Website Costs: A Static Website will cost you somewhere between Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 30,000 plus taxes depending on the number of pages you want on your website.

Dynamic Website Costs: The cost of Dynamic websites begins at around Rs. 30,000 and can go up to or even more than Rs. 10 Lakhs depending on the functionalities you want on your website.

But, before that, let us first have a look at some of the external variables that affect the costs of the website.

Domain:

A domain is basically the name of your website. Example: websiteleaners.com is the domain for the Website Learners website. A domain name would cost around Rs.200 to Rs. 1000 plus taxes depending on the offers from Domain registrars and domain extension you choose. .com, .in,.co.in are some of the examples of domain name extensions.

Hosting:

Hosting is the place where all your website files are stored. Your hosting is also what decides your site’s performance and speed. Hosting can cost you somewhere between Rs.1000 to Rs. 10,000 per month depending on the kind of server you need. The bigger the website, the costlier server you would need.

SSL Certificate:

Having a website is one thing, providing a safe and secure experience to users who visit your website is another thing and a crucial one at that. SSL Certificates help you keep your website, user information safe and secure. While there are hosting providers who provide a free SSL certificate with some of their hosting plans, I would recommend you get a dedicated SSL certificate for your Hosting. This will cost you around Rs. 500 to Rs. 3000.

Apart from these, there are other elements such as Logos, Banner designs, etc that adds to the cost of the website. But since they are the generic ones, we won’t be discussing those in this post. Website Development Cost at an Agency:

If you are planning to with this option, there are certain things that you need to understand first. The costs of a website development agency will depend on the platform that you choose, the kind of features & functionalities you need, and also the number of customizations you would want on your website.

If you are looking at a simple static website with around 6–7 pages, it will cost you around Rs.10,000 to Rs. 15,000.

Further, there are two ways of going about getting your website developed.

CMS Based Website: For those of you who don’t know, CMS or Content Management Systems are platforms that make it easier to create & manage websites and their content. Some of the examples of CMS are WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, etc.

Taking this route to get your website developed might reduce the overall cost in comparison to getting it developed from scratch using code. The major reason is that there are 100s of themes and templates that can be used. The cost of developing a small business website using CMS would be somewhere between Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 50,000; On the other hand, a dynamic website like an E-Commerce website might cost you somewhere between Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 80,000. The cost might again vary depending on how many customizations you would need for your website.

Code-based website: A code-based website is a custom-built website that is developed from scratch using coding languages such as HTML, CSS, JS, and PHP or other server-side languages for a dynamic website.

Since it’s custom built and everything needs to be set up from scratch, this will cost you relatively higher than a CMS-based website. The cost of developing a Small Business website would be around or more than Rs. 60,000 and for a Dynamic website it would be around or more than Rs. 80,000.

Both of these ways have their set of costs, requirements, advantages, and disadvantages.

How much will it cost if you develop the website on your own?

It is a bit tempting to go ahead and build your website on your own and you are not completely wrong if you feel building a website on your own is a cost-effective option, but it does come at a price. The price is the amount of time you will be putting into it the skillset you would need to develop it from scratch.

There are so many things that you need to take care of like making the site user-friendly, having a responsive design, and coding in all the functionalities and features you need on your website. All of these take different sets of skills. If you are not sure about these things, I do suggest you not take the risk and go with a development agency instead.

On average, developing a website on your own will cost you around ₹40,000 - ₹55,000.

And for an eCommerce website, it will cost around ₹50,000 - ₹70,000.

This amount includes hosting, domain, and other expenses as well. But keep in mind that this cost can vary a lot based on your website and business requirements.

If you prefer building the website by yourself, then we recommend you check our article on How to Create a website for a step-by-step procedure.

Some major struggles people face when building a site on their own are:

  • Adding customizable features,
  • Fixing broken or non-working parts of your website,
  • Connecting with external services, etc.

Conclusion:

Websites are the first thing that most of your potential customers would engage, I would even go as far as saying that your website is the face of your Business. Hence, it is crucial that you get the best first impression, and a website with good visuals, page speed, content, and great user experience will help you immensely in that.

And when you’re trying to build a site all on your own, it is almost inevitable to avoid mistakes. But unfortunately, these mistakes can cost you money, take a long time to recover, and make you lose your website visitors. That is why we urge you to hire a web development agency to build your website.

When you hire a professional team, you are not bound to make any mistakes, which will help your website and business grow.

It also should go without saying that when you hop on to the journey of developing your own website, mistakes are unavoidable. The problem though is that while most of these mistakes are solvable, they cost you a lot of time, money & energy. So, Unless you are completely confident that it is something that you can pull off, I suggest you get a website development agency to help you develop your website.

Please note that the prices mentioned here can vary depending on a number of variables.
